Politics

I intend for this to be my only political entry. I strive to be apolitical. Apolitical in the sense that I try to keep politics entirely distant from my life. When I proclaim my desire to become apolitical in social spaces, there are inevitable cries that "being 'apolitical' is a political decision, and one that favors the status quo". However, this sort of argument is invariably used as a cudgel to bully others into taking political stances that they wouldn't otherwise take.

It reminds me of the Soviet movement against "formalism". Art without overt (Communist) political content was seen as reactionary and anti-Soviet. There came a point where trying to live and express one's self in a way that was non-political was seen as being hostile to the hegemonic state power. One's conscience was forfeit to the dictates of groupthink.

I revel in the spaces where I can have no opinion, hold my tongue, choose not to act and be silent. I free myself from the shackles of ideology. I commit myself to being present and doing the best I can in the spaces I inhabit.
